Warwick is widely regarded as one
of the leading premium wine producers
in the Stellenbosch region of South
Africa.
When Stan and Norma Ratcliffe
bought the estate in 1964 they started
developing the land with a focus on the
classic Bordeaux varieties.
Since then, Warwick’s wines have won
many awards, firmly establishing the
brand as a South African icon.
Almost all the estate’s vineyards are
planted on the foothills and mid-slopes of
the Simonsberg Mountain with vineyards
ranging from 240 to 360 metres above
sea level. This elevated position exposes
the vineyards to cooling winds during the
spring and summer seasons.
A variety of slopes, aspects and the
prevalence of different clay-rich soil types
result in unique pockets of terroir,
allowing them to produce wines with
complexity and character. Many of the
vineyards are found on cooler south and
southwestern facing slopes that produce
some of the best Cabernet Franc in the
Stellenbosch region.
