Champagne vs. Crémant vs. Prosecco: What's the Difference?
The most important thing to understand is that Champagne is a place, not just a style. True Champagne comes exclusively from the Champagne region of northeast France, made using the traditional method (méthode champenoise), which produces those fine, persistent bubbles and the characteristic toasty complexity the region is famous for.
Prosecco, by contrast, is made in northeast Italy using the Charmat method, where secondary fermentation happens in large tanks rather than individual bottles. The result is a fresher, fruitier style — lovely for aperitivo moments, but a different experience entirely.
Crémant is France's answer to affordable traditional-method sparkling wine, produced outside the Champagne region — in Alsace, Burgundy, or the Loire, for example. It shares Champagne's production method but at a more accessible price point. Our
